§ When a vessel is underway no person should sit, stand, or lay outside the enclosed seating area i.e. above the motor or outside the deck gated area. This is considered reckless operation.
§ Every vessel should have a properly rigged anchor with at least 100' of line.
§ It is illegal to use docking lights when underway. Use only when docking.
§ A Maritime Band VHF radio is suggested. This will allow communications with personnel from the USCG, North Carolina Wildlife Resources (NCWR), Virginia Game and Inland Fisheries (VDGIF), and monitoring stations on the lake.
§ When passing an oncoming vessel pass to the right.
§ When overtaking a vessel you may pass on the right or left with care. Signals are suggested. Do not pass in narrow channels.
§ When vessels are crossing paths the vessel on the right has the right of way. You should pass to its stern. Be Alert!
